On February 21st, 2019 Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s office Crime Suppression Unit and S.C.O.R.P.I.O.N unit were attempting to execute an arrest warrant issued for Austin Strickland of Douglasville, Georgia at his residence located off Chicago Avenue. The arrest warrant they were attempting to serve was for Failure to Appear on theft charges in Douglas County. Deputies had attempted to serve this warrant prior and were unsuccessful. While at the residence, deputies located Strickland hiding in the back of the residence in a locked cabinet. Also located inside this locked cabinet with Strickland were several types of narcotics and a wide selection of firearms. Strickland was taken into custody without incident and two other people at the residence were detained.
Deputies that had executed the arrest warrant then contact agents with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Division. Agents with SID responded to the scene and secured a search warrant for the residence based on what was located in the cabinet. During the search, the following items were located and seized as part of the investigation. In excess of six (6) Ounces of ICE Methamphetamine, approximately 9 MDMA or Ecstasy tablets, misdemeanor marijuana, four (4) handguns, two (2) rifles, and one modified shotgun often referred to as a “Sawed Off” shotgun that had the serial numbers removed.
At the conclusion of the search and as a result of the subsequent investigation Austin Strickland, Crystal George age 33 of Douglasville, and Jack Floyd age 23 of Morven, Georgia were arrested for numerous narcotic and weapons violations. Each person was charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Multiple fire arms related offenses and other narcotics related offenses.
Evidence Seized in Drug Arrest
On January 25, 2019 at approximately 7:00am the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a concerned citizen in which the caller described locating a deceased female off the roadway at West Union Hill Road and Ephesus Church Road. Deputies and investigators responded to the call where a female, later identified as Sheila Bryant, 55 years of age, of Bremen, Georgia was found deceased just off the roadway in the grass at the location given by the concerned citizen. Investigators created a crime scene and began processing that scene for information. The deceased female was later transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime Lab where the state medical examiner ruled the death a homicide and investigators believe the cause of death was by strangulation. It was determined by investigators that the female was killed at another location and she was then left on the roadside off of Ephesus Church Road.
Because of the complexity of the case little information could be released for fear that the suspect might flee or evidence be destroyed. Early in the investigation information was developed about a potential person of interest by the name of Eric Greene and investigators quickly began to focus on him as the suspect in this murder. On February 7th, 2019 Eric Greene was located in the victim’s car in Paulding County where he was arrested on an outstanding warrant. After further follow up, Investigators were able to determine Greene’s involvement in the crime and he was formally charged on February 24, 2019, with Murder and Motor Vehicle Theft.
Greene went before a Douglas County Superior Court Judge for his first appearance hearing on 2/25/2019 where he was read his charges and his bond was denied.
On February 17, 2019, the pictured suspect entered the Family Dollar at 2682 Lee Road. He produced a weapon and took cash from three registers. He is described as a skinny, light skinned black male. Approximate height is 5’5″ to 5’6″ and age is 25-30 years old. If you have any information regarding the identity and/or location of this suspect, please contact Inv. Our inmate work crews are helping the parks get ready for spring and baseball season. This week, they were painting inside the concession stand at Lithia Springs ball park.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip overnight on February 12, 2019, regarding a suspect with an outstanding warrant. Said suspect is a felon with a history of violence. The Fugitive & Warrants Unit acted quickly on the tip, and the suspect was arrested shortly thereafter. We encourage anyone who has information about a specific crime, fugitive, or other suspected criminal activity to please contact us either via our website or our tip line (770-920-7139). We would also like to recognize the quick action taken by our Fugitive & Warrants Unit in taking a wanted felon into custody.

Heaven Fudge, 16 years of age, was last seen on January 13, 2019 in Douglasville, Georgia, unknown clothing description. Heaven Fudge is described as 5’1, 92lbs, black hair, and brown eyes.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is now taking applications for our 2019 Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy! The 12-week course begins this March!
The curriculum and training are not what you would expect. Our goal is not to teach the student how to become a law enforcement officer, but rather to give students some insight into the duties and responsibilities of our deputies. While graduates of the Citizens Law Enforcement Academy are not prepared for daily street duty, they do acquire a better understanding of our daily operations and the challenges that confront our deputies. Our hope is that the student leaves with a better understanding of the complex nature of our work, enforcing the law.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office understands that community involvement is one of the most powerful tools any law enforcement agency has in the fight against crime. Through CLEA, citizens can help us keep Douglas County safe and a great place to live and work. Best of all, CLEA graduates become “goodwill ambassadors” for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Classes are held on Thursday nights for 12 weeks, from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm. All applicants need to be able to commit to attending the twelve sessions of this academy.
Applicants must be a resident or business owner in Douglas County. You must be at least 21 years of age, and give consent for a background check as part of the application process. There is no fee for this class.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has been receiving reports on a new phone scam. This particular phone scam is an individual claiming to be Deputy Chief Conner and asking for the person by name. The fake Deputy Chief Conner provides a phone number and an extension and asks for you to call them. The phone number provided states a similar answer message; however the address is not of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. When the person contacts the extension it goes straight to another individual claiming to be Colonel Oliver.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office wants to inform the Public that we are looking into these complaints. If anyone has been contacted by a person claiming to be either Deputy Chief Conner or Colonel Oliver, please contact the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will not contact anyone to ask for money in exchange to remove warrants.
For several weeks, patrons at the QuikTrip and BP locations on Thornton Road have been victimized by slider crimes. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office gained information about a particular vehicle being used in the crimes and were on the lookout for a black Honda CRV with new car tags. The Special Investigations Division compiled enough data to establish time frames and figure out a pattern for the criminal activity in the area.
The Scorpion Unit was assigned to the detail and were in the area during the time these crimes were occurring. On December 31, 2018, around 5:15 am the Honda CRV matching the description from previous calls was observed pulling into the QuikTrip convenience store on Thornton Road. While at the gas station, deputies noticed the vehicle moving from pump to pump without anyone ever getting out to enter the store or to pump gas. The vehicle then pulled out of the gas station and made a right onto Thornton Road at a high rate of speed, turning right and went to the BP on Thornton Road. At that point, deputies activated their emergency siren and tried to make a traffic stop and the vehicle sped off. Deputies were able to catch up to the vehicle. After a brief pursuit and a foot chase, along with a K-9 apprehension, two of the four suspects were taken into custody. Jaleel Ethington and Ronique Stripling were arrested on various charges in relation to the crimes. The vehicle was also found to be stolen.
Slider type crimes are crimes of opportunity. Whenever you are pumping gas, lock your doors. Most people tend to get out of their vehicle to pump gas, leave the doors unlock and turn their backs to their vehicles. Criminals enter vehicles from the opposite side and slide purses, weapons, etc., and drive off with the possessions. This type of crime has plagued the metro Atlanta area for quite some time now. Slider crimes can be prevented with a few extra seconds to beware of your surroundings and being proactive by locking your doors.

During the month of December, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to approximately seven commercial burglary calls that occurred in the west side of Douglas County. Five of the calls were being investigated among the seven that occurred at The Farmer’s Table (twice); Farm Fresh (three times); Dollar General and Country Corner. The suspects stole approximately $3,000 cash and an undisclosed amount of goods from the businesses.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a tip about a juvenile runaway who was questioned and confessed to the break-ins. After further investigation, two juveniles were identified and taken into custody.
