The Douglas County Re-entry Program was implemented by Sheriff Tim Pounds to help improve public safety and minimize high recidivism in Douglas County by providing support and connections for the needed services.Ensuring reentry ability through job placement skills, social skills, healthcare education, housing and transportation will be beneficial. Sheriff Pounds appointed Lisa Williams, MSW, to coordinate the reentry program.

Mission

The mission of the Douglas County Re-entry Program is to aid formerly incarcerated Douglas County individuals with reentering our community, by providing support and connections for needed services; ensuring reentry ability through job placement skills, social skills, healthcare education, housing and transportation; improving public safety by minimizing the risk of recidivism in Douglas County.

Curriculum

We have life skill classes four to five times per week that provide help with making a plan for successful reentry back into the community. Presentations from other programs two to three times per month that provides help with job readiness, empowerment, HIV education, GED, West GA Technical College, Douglas County Mental Health/additional services and other religious-based programs. Presentations are all volunteers from these programs.

In each housing area of the jail, there is a kiosk where inmates can apply for the Reentry Program. To be eligible for the program:

  • No disciplinary issues
  • Must have a bond and will be released from the Douglas County Jail (includes individuals that are being held on probation violations)
  • If already sentenced, reentry programs are provided by the State Department of Corrections.
