Despite the population growth, Sheriff Tim Pounds has been effective in reducing nearly all Part I crimes in Douglas County since taking office on January 1, 2017. A Part I crime is commonly considered as “More Serious” and includes, Homicide, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Rape, Burglary, Larceny, Motor Vehicle Theft, and Arson. In 2023 the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office had a total of 1178 Part 1 crimes. That is 557 fewer than the 1735 reported in 2016. Aggravated Assaults and Homicides were the only categories that have increased, and each of those categories increased by a total of only 2 incidents each.

**2023 had 557 fewer part 1 crimes compared to 2016.**

The stats below reflect 2016 before Sheriff Pounds was elected and after 7 years in office.
