Exodus Ranch Foster Fun Day

A huge THANK YOU goes out to our friends at the Exodus Ranch here in Douglasville.  They provided a day of fun activities and horseback riding as well as a demonstration by some of their rider’s awesome skills to foster children in the area.  There was food, fun and an opportunity to visit with these precious children.  The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was proud to be invited to participate in this great event.

Two Dirt Bikes Stolen

On 03/18/19 two 2018 Apollo Dirt bikes similar to the ones pictured above were taken from 2756 E. County Line Road. The red one is a 250cc model and the blue is a 125cc model. They were secured behind the residence and chained up. A brake handle or clutch handle may be missing from one of the bikes. Any information as to the recovery of the bikes or identity of the suspects involved, please notify Inv. E. Waters at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at the contacts provided. If the vehicle is spotted please contact your local law enforcement.

Convoy of Care

Every year some of our Georgia neighbors are adversely affected by severe weather.  The Convoy of Care gathers donations at the beginning of the season so affected families can receive necessary supplies in their time of need.   The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is proud to assist in this worthwhile effort to prepare in advance to help Georgia communities in need.  For more information on the Convoy of Care, check out their website!

Eastside Elementary Visit

On March 21st, members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s office were privileged to visit with the children at Eastside Elementary School.  The kids got to see some of our equipment, and we got to make some new friends!

Congratulations, New Deputies and New Hire

Sheriff Tim Pounds and staff would like to welcome our recent hires and newly-mandated Deputies. Dep. Lee Martin is a familiar face around the sheriff’s office having previously worked with the Douglasville Police Department before moving on to the MARTA PD. We’re glad to have him! Dep. Russell Bonds previously worked in our jail before being sent to mandate. Dep. Katelyn Lovvorn comes to us from Juno, AK. Jailer Terrance Martin is brand new to law enforcement. Theft of Food Trailer

On 03/04/19 the trailer pictured above was stolen from the CubeSmart Rental facility located at 1575 N. Blairs Bridge in Lithia Springs. The trailer was reported seen traveling I-20 eastbound on 03/11/19 being pulled by a black and silver colored Chevrolet Silverado. The trailer has distinct lettering on all sides. Any information as to the recovery of the trailer or identity of the suspects involved, please notify Inv. E. Waters at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at the contacts provided. If the vehicle is spotted please contact your local law enforcement.

Career Day at Burnette Elementary

On March 14, 2019, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office had the great pleasure of meeting some of our future community leaders at the Burnett Elementary School Career Day. Students were able to get a close up view of some of our special equipment, our patrol cars and our portable detention trailer. And, of course, they had to wrap up the day with some ice cream from out Polar Patrol! Thank you for having us, Burnett. We had a great time!

Sweetwater Elementary School

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is committed to fostering positive relationships with our community.  On March 15th, we got to share some ice cream with students at Sweetwater Elementary School.  The deputies and the kids had a great time!

 

15th Annual Blake Gammill Run

This year’s Gammill Run will be held Saturday, May 18th at Boundary Waters Park. Unlike in years past, this time it will be an evening/night run. The 1-mile run/walk starts at 7:00pm, and the 5k run/walk begins at 7:30pm. Everyone is invited to the event, even if they’re not participating in the run/walk. Registration on the run can be done online at www.active.com, or a copy of the registration form can be downloaded and sent to the Douglas County Rogue Runners. Preregistration is open until May 8th. The fees are $15 for the 1-mile run/walk and $22 for the 5k. Fees increase $5 if registered after May 8th. This is a rain-or-shine event, and the fees are not refundable. All preregistered participants will receive one quality, wicking technical t-shirt (adult sizes only, youth sizes cotton). Late and race day registrants are not guaranteed a t-shirt. Awards will be given to the 5K overall male & female, masters male & female, and top 3 male & female in 15 age groups from 10 & under through 75+. Ribbons will be awarded to all 1-mile finishers. The course is a combination of roads, grass and trails. For the safety of everyone, no pets, headphones or strollers are permitted on the course. For questions, email Sgt. The proceeds will benefit the Douglas County Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SERT). This race is in honor of Officer Blake Gammill, Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy who was killed in the line of duty February 24, 2005.

 

Crime Stats: 2016 – 2018

These are the yearly crime stats for 2016 thru 2018 for unincorporated Douglas County. These numbers do not include the cities of Austell, Douglasville, or Villa Rica. Those crime stats are compiled by those police departments.

Sheriff’s Town Hall Meeting (includes video)

Sheriff Tim Pounds and his command staff held a fellowship dinner and town hall meeting at West Metro Church on Kings Hwy Monday night. Hot dogs and hamburgers were grilled by DCSO personnel and served by CLEA-A and church staff. The meal was followed by the meeting where Sheriff Pounds introduced his command staff from various divisions including Investigations, Patrol, Warrants/Civil/Fugitive/Transports, Court Services, and Jail. Each supervisor then explained what their respective divisions did and how they operated. A full video of the meeting is available online:

Three Arrested in Drug Bust

On February 21st, 2019 Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s office Crime Suppression Unit and S.C.O.R.P.I.O.N unit were attempting to execute an arrest warrant issued for Austin Strickland of Douglasville, Georgia at his residence located off Chicago Avenue. The arrest warrant they were attempting to serve was for Failure to Appear on theft charges in Douglas County. Deputies had attempted to serve this warrant prior and were unsuccessful. While at the residence, deputies located Strickland hiding in the back of the residence in a locked cabinet. Also located inside this locked cabinet with Strickland were several types of narcotics and a wide selection of firearms. Strickland was taken into custody without incident and two other people at the residence were detained.

Deputies that had executed the arrest warrant then contact agents with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Division. Agents with SID responded to the scene and secured a search warrant for the residence based on what was located in the cabinet. During the search, the following items were located and seized as part of the investigation. In excess of six (6) Ounces of ICE Methamphetamine, approximately 9 MDMA or Ecstasy tablets, misdemeanor marijuana, four (4) handguns, two (2) rifles, and one modified shotgun often referred to as a “Sawed Off” shotgun that had the serial numbers removed.

At the conclusion of the search and as a result of the subsequent investigation Austin Strickland, Crystal George age 33 of Douglasville, and Jack Floyd age 23 of Morven, Georgia were arrested for numerous narcotic and weapons violations. Each person was charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Multiple fire arms related offenses and other narcotics related offenses.
