ServPro Disinfects Patrol Cars

On April 16, 2020, the ServPro of Central and Northwest Georgia team came out to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to disinfect the interiors of our patrol cars. This cleaning goes beyond a simple car cleanout and interior detailing. Their procedures and products follow the CDC recommendations. According to their website:

“The CDC recommends usage of a labeled hospital-grade disinfectant with claims against similar pathogens to the coronavirus. Multiple products in the SERVPRO product line carry the EPA-approved emerging pathogens claims. While there is currently no product tested against this particular strain of the coronavirus, we are following all guidelines as provided by the CDC and local authorities.”

Sheriff Tim Pounds and especially our Patrol Division are incredibly grateful for Ricky Wilson and his staff for donating their time and materials, including washable/reusable N95-equivalent masks, to keep our deputies safe during these unprecedented times. For more information about how ServPro is equipped to handle the COVID-19 outbreak, please visit their website.

DCSO Responds to the COVID-19 Virus

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is implementing the follow precautions to protect our employees, inmates in custody, and the public:

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has closed our main lobby and the Lithia Springs Precinct to the public. If you need a copy of a “police” report you may request it by emailing records@sheriff.douglas.ga.us. We will temporary waive the cost associated with obtaining a report. If the report is an accident report, you need to visit Buycrash.com to obtain a copy.

All open records request will be processed as usual with fees applied. You will need to communicate with our Custodian of Records at records@sheriff.douglas.ga.us for instructions.

We are temporarily suspending all background checks to the public. This information requires waivers and fees. The final report is protected by law and cannot be emailed like other reports. For those reasons, we will not be filling those requests.

On-site inmate visitation will be suspended as of noon today. Internet visits will not be interrupted. You may visit an inmate on-line by going to GettingOut.com.  We are working with our vendor to allow for FREE visits until at least June 30th if needed.  Hopefully the system change allowing you to schedule free visits will be done by end of business day tomorrow, March 18, but if it is not please keep checking back on the site.  We are also working with our inmate telephone vendor to allow two FREE 15 minute calls a week.

Our outside Inmate Worker Program will be suspended until further notice.

Any and all public training classes such as the Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy (CLEA), handgun clinic, and women’s self defense will be postponed until further notice.

If you need to file a report, please call 770-942-2121. If you have a law enforcement emergency, call 770-949-5656 or 911. For the foreseeable future, we will be handling a lot of reports by phone, but rest assured that we still have plenty of officers patrolling the streets. If you have a situation that requires a deputy to respond, they will be there.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause to the citizens of Douglas County and thank you in advance for your understanding. We will resume normal operations when we are informed it is safe to do so.
