The suspect was located and taken into custody without incident. During a search of the suspect’s vehicle, multiple victims’ belongings were recovered. #9PMRoutine

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will be joining the #9PMRoutine social media campaign on September 1st. For the entire month, we will be reminding our social media followers each night to secure their homes and valuables. We encourage everyone to get into the habit of removing things like wallets and weapons from vehicles, making sure the vehicle is locked, closing and locking any gates to your property, that doors to your residence are also locked, and to turn on exterior lights before going to bed for the night. It is our goal to deter easy-target crimes such as entering autos, and we hope that county residents get in the habit of locking up before turning in for the evening.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Multiple Entering Autos

On June 24, 2018, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was notified of 40 cases of car break-ins in subdivisions off Riverside Pkwy as well as in the Brittni Place subdivision. It is believed that a 12-person crew is responsible for those break-ins. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division has been working closely with other agencies and jurisdictions including the DeKalb Police Department, the Cobb County Police Department, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and the Harrallson County Sheriff’s Office to identify members of this crew. So far, eight suspects have been identified. Six are in custody, and four still need to be identified. It is believed that several juveniles are part of this crew. Please contact Inv. Jones at 678-486-1254 or kjones@sheriff.douglas.ga.us if you have any information about the identity and/or whereabouts of the remaining suspects.

A second two-man crew is believed to be behind another 40-60 entering autos targeting vehicles in the Brittni Place subdivision as well as locations in Carrollton and Villa Rica. Those car break-ins occurred on or around August 10, 2018. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division worked with the Cobb County Police Department, Brookhaven Police Department, Villa Rica Police Department, and the Carrollton Police Department to identify, locate, and arrest these individuals. Community Events

Sheriff Tim Pounds and personnel from the SCOPE Division were busy over the weekend! There were several events on Saturday that the Sheriff, several of our School Resource Officers, and the ice cream truck attended including the Crossroads For Life Community Back to School Give Away Day and the Back 2 School Jamboree and Resource Fair at Jessie Davis Park, plus events at the Children’s Dental Group on Thornton Road and Christ Apostolic Life Church on Newman Street.

Multiple Agencies Participated in an Active Shooter Drill

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Douglas County Fire Department, Douglas County Board of Education, Douglas County Emergency Management Agency, Douglas County Emergency 911, Douglas Wellstar Hospital, Douglasville Police Department, Georgia Emergency Management Agency, Georgia State Patrol, Cobb/Douglas Public Health, Air Methods, and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office conduced an active shooter training exercise on July 25th, 2018. This large-scale training drill was meant to test the resources of all the above-mentioned agencies in an effort to better prepare Douglas County First Responders in the event of a mass casualty active shooter event. This event was carefully planned beginning in January of this year and included hours of planning as well as one table top exercise conducted early in the planning stages.

This full-scale training exercise consisted of a scenario in which an armed intruder entered Mason Creek Middle School as an active shooter. Over 200 civilian volunteers participated in this event as well as over 125 first responders and emergency care providers to simulate as realistic an event as possible. Numerous police, fire and EMS units from many agencies responded to the school during the drill, including a simulated helicopter evacuation of a victim by Air Methods. Dozens of site safety officers were in place to ensure that the drill was completed as safely as possible.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank everyone involved in this large-scale training event. While we hope that we’ll never have to implement this kind of response, it’s better to plan and train for the worst than to be caught unprepared.
