Man Arrested for Theft

On 09/04/19 at approximately 10:30 am, this man backed his vehicle into the carport of this residence in Lithia Springs and made entry into an outbuilding on the property. If you recognize this person please contact Sgt Chuck Catlin at 678 486-1237 or by email at ccatlin@sheriff.douglas.ga.us.

Two People Wanted for Theft

On August 26, 2019 these two individuals came into the Family Dollar in Lithia Springs and walked out without paying for the items they were carrying. If you can identify these people, please notify Sgt. Chuck Catlin at 678-486-1237.

Patrol Deputy Arrested

On August 4th, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an assault at an address in Douglasville. As the investigation unfolded, investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division learned that three persons under the age of 21 were provided alcohol by one of our deputy sheriffs. Deputy David Tyler Gibson, 23, provided alcohol to the persons under 21 and was arrested on August 15th and charged with 4 counts of furnishing alcohol to persons under the age of 21 and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Gibson received a $1000.00 bond per count and was later released. The following day Deputy Gibson was terminated from employment with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

After Gibson’s termination, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant at a location in Douglasville where Gibson happened to be present. As a result of the search warrant, Gibson was re-arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug related objects, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Gibson appeared in Magistrate Court August 19th and was given a $4,500 bond. He was later released on bond. An initial press release was not issued due to the nature of the ongoing illicit drug investigation; however, in the interest of media inquiries, and agency transparency, an official press release has been provided.

Person Wanted for Delivery Theft

Located: Juvenile Kyndra Hawk

Kyndra Hawk, 16 years of age, was last seen on July 22nd, 2019 in Douglasville, Georgia, unknown clothing description. Kyndra Hawk is described as 5’6, 135lbs, black hair, and brown eyes.

Traffic Stop Leads to Largest Heroin Seizure in County History

On June 25, 2019, deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office FIND Unit stopped a Chevrolet Sonic on I-20 east bound, near South Baggett Road. During the course of the traffic stop, conflicting information from the vehicle’s occupants led to deputies requesting consent to search the vehicle. The search uncovered 4 metal cubes, made out of quarter inch steel. Each cube contained five rectangular tubes which were welded together with plates covering their contents. Each rectangular tube contained approximately 20 Kilograms of heroin. The driver of the vehicle, Catarino Lopez, from Mercedes Texas, was taken into custody for trafficking heroin.

Investigators with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Division were contacted to assist in this case. Investigators learned that the heroin was being sent to a hotel in the Lithia Springs area to be picked up by individuals operating with Mr. Lopez. An operational plan was developed to deliver the narcotics to the other co-conspirators involved in this investigation.

Multiple assets from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, including the Special Investigations Division, FIND Unit, Uniform Patrol Division, and Command Staff were deployed to assist in this operation. On the morning of June 26, 2019, two individuals, who were later identified as Ulises Quiroa-Uriarte and Uriarte Leonel Valdez, arrived and took possession of the heroin shipment. Deputies involved in the operation were able to safely take these individuals into custody. All of the suspects in this case are currently being held without bond in the Douglas County Jail.

This is the largest recorded heroin seizure in Douglas County’s history. This is investigation is still active.

Man Arrested on Multiple Drug Charges

In late April 2019, agents with the Sheriff’s office Special Investigations Division received information about an Eric Vaughan Brown, possibly selling narcotics in Douglas County. Over the course of the next several months, agents with SID were able to make several purchases of cocaine and MDMA (Ecstasy) from Mr. Brown. These transactions occurred inside Douglas County.

On July 25, 2019, agents with SID and the Sheriff’s office Crime Suppression Unit were able to take Mr. Brown into custody during a transaction involving cocaine. Subsequent to his arrest, Mr. Brown was found to be in possession of cocaine and marijuana. He also had a loaded firearm in his possession. Brown was accompanied by three children under 18 during his last transaction.

A search warrant was executed at his residence where agents recovered cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana. Four additional firearms were recovered from the residence.

Eric Vaughan Brown was taken to the Douglas County jail and charged with the following.

  • Sales of a schedule I controlled substance
  • Sales of cocaine
  • Possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute
  • Possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute
  • Possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute
  • Possession of heroin with the intent to distribute
  • Possession of drug related objects
  • Possession of firearm while in possession of VGCSA (5 counts)
  • Reckless conduct (3 Counts)
  • Use of telecommunication facilities (3 Count)
  • Sales or possession with intent to distribute narcotics within 1000 feet of elementary School (3 Counts)

He is currently being held without bond. More charges are pending on other co-conspirators.

Man Wanted for Assault at Gas Station

On 7/8/2019 at approximately 11:40pm, the pictured subject entered the Marathon Gas Station at 5259 Stewart Mill Road and got into a verbal then physical altercation with the clerk by swinging at the clerk through the open security window. The suspect then fled the area in a black and tan 2010-2015 Dodge Ram.

Two Arrested for Shipping Heroin

In early July 2019, the Douglas Sheriff’s office Special investigations Division (SID) received information from the Cobb County Sheriff’s office about shipments of heroin, being sent to the Cobb County Jail. Over the course of the investigation, it was determined that the packages were originating from a residence in Douglas County on Splitrock Lane. The packages were being sent to an inmate by the name of Aaron Jacklin. The packages had been intercepted on more than one occasion by Cobb County officials.

Agents with SID were able to secure a search warrant for the residence located in Douglas County. Agents with the Special Investigations Division and the Sheriff’s Crime Suppression Unit executed the search warrant on July 12, 2019. While executing the warrants, agents and deputy’s recovered approximately 3.5 ounces of Heroin from the residence. It was determined that the packages were being sent to Cobb County from the inmate Mr. Aaron Jacklin’s mother, Dina Jacklin. Mrs. Jacklin was present during the warrants execution.

Mrs. Jacklin was taken into custody and charged with Trafficking Heroin and conspiracy to commit a felony. Warrants were taken for her son Aaron, for conspiracy to commit a felony. Mrs. Jacklin declined to make a statement to Sheriffs officials.

Escapee from Mississippi Arrested in Douglas County

On July 13th 2019, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit received information about the whereabouts of a subject identified as Justin Sewell. There were active warrants for the arrest of Justin for the charges of Violation of Probation (2 counts) through Douglas County and Escape from a Mississippi Corrections Facility.

A team was put together that included Special Investigations Division, Crime Suppression , K-9, H.E.A.T and SCORPION. Justin was taken in to custody at a residence on Cool Springs Road along with Megan Hylton, who also had outstanding arrest warrants.

This individual, who has a violent history, attempted to flee from justice by hiding in our county. The members of the units mentioned above worked past their assigned shifts in order to make sure that he would not be able to commit further crimes in our community; and that he had to answer for the crimes that he was running from in another state.

Located: Juvenile Madison Fortner

Madison Fortner, 15 years of age, was last seen on June 11th, 2019 in Douglasville, Georgia, unknown clothing description. Madison Fortner is described as 5’4, 275lbs, dark brown, and pink hair, and brown eyes.

Teen Arrested for Murder

At approximately 12:45am on Monday June 10th, 2019 the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a concerned citizen who stated they heard a loud noise and saw a group of teens running from one of the residences in Lakeside Mobile Home Park located off Bankhead Highway in Lithia Springs, Georgia. Deputies responded to the location and began investigating the source of the noise and the reason for the teens running. Deputies soon learned that in one of the residences there were two teens that had engaged in an argument over a video game controller. The argument lead to one of the teens, Gabriel Martinez Cruz, firing a handgun and striking the victim, Gonzalo Lamar Gonzalez-Abara, causing his death. This case is actively under investigation and no further information is being released at this time.

Gabriel Cruz of Lithia Springs has been arrested on charges of malice murder and tampering with evidence.

Four Arrested for Drive-By Shooting

On June 1st, 2019 at approximately 10:22pm the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a resident of 3674 Lower Creek Drive in Douglasville in which the caller stated there had been a drive-by shooting. Deputies immediately responded to the area and located an eye witness who was able to give a very detailed description of the vehicle that was being driven by the shooters. Deputies that were in the area were able to locate that vehicle, a 2011 silver Impala displaying a blue and white drive out dealer tag, at a local gas station. The vehicle was stopped and four occupants were taken into custody. A stolen handgun was recovered from the vehicle with an empty magazine. The handgun was the same caliber as the shell casings recovered from the scene. Also a misdemeanor amount of marijuana was recovered from the vehicle.

Investigators discovered that the residence was struck six times as well as a vehicle that was parked in the driveway, and that seven .40 caliber S&W casings were found in the roadway.
