The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has recently been made aware that several residents have been receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be someone from our command staff and demanding money because they have missed a court date or for some other legal matter. Please understand that even though the phone number may look like it’s coming from our office and the person may use the name of someone currently employed with us, the person demanding money is not from the Sheriff’s Office. We will never resolve these issues over the phone as we prefer to handle them in person. Our investigators are currently working to track down the individual(s) responsible. We encourage everyone to simply hang up the phone if someone claiming to be from law enforcement demands some form of payment in lieu of your being arrested.
