Halloween Safety

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office provides a safe space for trick-or-treating at the annual Trunk-or-Treat event.

However, if you choose the traditional, door-to-door route, here are some tips you should follow:

Trick or Treating Safety Tips

Safety for Citizens | Halloween Night Trick-or-treating is Saturday, Douglas County, and Safe Kids Worldwide reports that children are twice as likely to be hit by a car on Halloween as on any other day.

A few simple habits keep the night fun:
✅ Add reflective tape to costumes and candy bags
✅ Carry a flashlight or glow stick so drivers can see you
✅ Choose face paint over masks that block vision
✅ Younger kids should trick-or-treat with an adult
✅ Cross at corners and crosswalks, and look both ways

Drivers: slow down in neighborhoods, especially from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., and put the phone away.
