My Kind of Dad Visits the DCSO

Sheriff Tim Pounds and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office are proud recognize My Kind of Dad. This family-run business was started by Michelle Williams and her husband, Jay. Along with creating balloon displays for parties, weddings and other functions, they give back to the community by providing inmates with a chance to connect with their children through the gift of a custom balloon bear and keepsake box. For parents who are incarcerated, these gifts help to show the children that they are loved, even though their parent can’t be with them. Each parent is encouraged to write a letter to their child, which is then placed in the keepsake box.

The inmates who were selected to take part in the program are currently participating in the Douglas County Adult Detention Reentry Program. This program, started in 2018 by Sheriff Pounds, aims to combat the recidivism rate in Douglas County. Inmates who are selected for the program, and who will be released into the Douglas County community, are given contact information for job placement, housing, transportation, and other resources. While they are incarcerated, inmates also meet with life coaches, and learn skills that will help them get jobs once they are released. One of the great things about this program is that it’s completely free. The resource providers donate their time in service to their community.
