Deputy Injured in Stop Sign Wreck

It is the belief of some that lesser traffic offenses should not be enforced as strictly in Douglas County and that law enforcement should concentrate their efforts on more serious crimes and issues. Speeding, distracted driving, running stop signs and red lights are and have been a serious concern of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. We have two different units consisting of 13 deputies specifically designated to traffic enforcement throughout the county.

Last night one of our deputies was traveling westbound on Hwy 78. As he was in the Hwy 78-Post Road intersection, which is under construction, a driver ran the stop sign and collided with his car. Thank goodness, both drivers appeared to have non-life-threatening injuries. The deputy is doing well and recovering at home. For your safety and the safety of others please drive carefully and obey the traffic laws!
