DCSO Awarded Traffic Enforcement Grant

Douglasville, Georgia, The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office announced today that it has been awarded a major traffic enforcement grant in the amount of $20,000.00 from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) in Atlanta.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received the grant in recognition of its lifesaving work as the coordinating agency of GOHS’s Western Region Traffic Enforcement Network. There are sixteen traffic enforcement networks across the state that help enforce Georgia’s year-round safety belt, speed and impaired driving campaigns.

“The loss of one life on our roads is one too many, and the fact almost all fatal traffic crashes can be prevented is one reason why we are awarding this grant,” Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Director Allen Poole said.  “The target of zero traffic deaths in our nation is achievable, and we will continue to help develop and implement educational messages and enforcement campaigns aimed at bringing our state one step closer to that goal.”

The Western Region Traffic Enforcement Network includes law enforcement agencies in 8 counties, which include Haralson, Paulding, Carroll, Douglas, Heard, Coweta, Troup, and Meriwether County.

“We hope to keep making an impact on the safety of our roadways with the help from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.” – Network Coordinator Matthew Atkins

The coordinator in the Western Region Traffic Enforcement Network Region will coordinate year-round waves of high visibility, concentrated patrols, multi-jurisdictional roadchecks and sobriety checkpoints as a partner in campaigns such as Click It or Ticket, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and 100 Days of Summer HEAT.

For more information on the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office’s award contact Matthew Atkins, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (770-702-4350). For more information on the grant program, call 404-656-6996 or visit www.gahighwaysafety.org.

Six Arrested in Hotel Drug Bust

During the midst of the current COVID-19 pandemic, and all the issues surrounding the virus, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has been diligently working to clean the Efficiency Lodge on Fairburn Road of drug dealers. This summer, the Special Investigations Division received information that multiple individuals were involved in a drug trafficking organization operating in the Efficiency Lodge located at 2420 Fairburn Rd, Douglasville Georgia.

On the morning of October 15, 2020, multiple units from the Douglas County Sheriff’s office, Douglasville Police Department, and the Georgia Department of Public Safety executed multiple search warrants simultaneously at the Efficiency Lodge. Search warrants were executed at multiple rooms as well as the office. A related search warrant was also executed at 3625 Sweet Briar Circle, Lithia Springs GA. Agents were able to seize marijuana, cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, US currency, and a total of 5 firearms.

Investigators arrested the following individuals:
Alviro Smith, 24
Deselvia Greely, 30
Paul Robinson, 39
Trina Robinson, 36
Michael Sasser, 32
Victor Medina, 45

Charges levied against those arrested vary by suspect; however, range from RICO (Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act), use of telecommunications device to facilitate a felony, possession of a firearm during a violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, reckless conduct, theft by receiving stolen motor vehicle, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and sales of illicit narcotics.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office strives to serve, protect, and make the community safe. Community involvement is the key to a healthy and happy community. Working together will help to make Douglas County a safe and happy place to live and work. If you have any information of criminal or suspicious activity we would like to hear from you and anonymous tips are always welcome. Stay safe as we head into the holiday season.

On August 31, 2020, Douglas County Sheriffs Office patrol units were dispatched to a call of a person who was shot at I-20 and Lee Road in Lithia Springs, GA. Deputies responded and met with the victim who suffered gunshot wounds in the incident. The victim stated he was traveling west bound on I-20 between Thornton Road and Lee Road when a silver pickup truck approached his vehicle from behind flashing the bright lights at the victim. The victim exited to Lee Road whereas the suspect vehicle followed, and pulled up beside the victim. Without warning, an occupant of the silver truck shouted obscenities at the victim and then fired rounds into the victim’s vehicle striking him twice. The suspect truck then fled onto I-20 east.
