PRESS RELEASE:

Entering Auto Suspects Apprehended after Vehicle Pursuit

On Thursday November 26, 2015 at approximately 2:00am the Douglas County Sheriff's Office received a call of a suspicious vehicle at the Hilton Garden Inn at 110 Interstate West Parkway Lithia Springs, GA that had circled through the parking lot and then parked.

Upon the deputy's arrival a 2015 Ford Edge (that was later determined stolen from Cobb County) pulled out of the location it was parked and fled the parking lot. The deputy then pursued the vehicle onto Thornton Road.

The vehicle then entered Interstate 20 westbound at a high rate of speed and continued westbound to exit number 41 Lee road and exited the interstate turning right onto Lee road. After turning right onto Lee road the deputy in pursuit executed a successful P.I.T. (Pursuit Immobilization Technique) maneuver on the stolen vehicle.

The vehicle came to a stop on the edge of Lee road and the Marathon Service Station parking lot striking a parked tow vehicle and a male subject (later identified as Darrius T Glass 05/20/97) and a male juvenile subject exited the vehicle and fled the scene.

Both subjects were apprehended after a brief foot chase and search by a K-9 unit. Also during the K-9 search for one of the suspects a handgun (that was later determined stolen) was found by the K-9 near the suspect. Upon searching the stolen vehicle there was women's jewelry, undetermined amount of cash, and two bags of marijuana.

These two subjects through investigation are also connected to entering autos at the same location on Tuesday November 24, 2015 and are suspects in several entering autos in other jurisdictions in the metro area. Subject Darrius T. Glass and the male juvenile subject were arrested and charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Vehicle, Possession of Marijuana, Obstruction, Fleeing or Attempting to elude law enforcement.

'Tis the Season for "Package Pirates":

The holiday shopping season is coming up soon, and "package pirates" know it. They have been known to cruise around neighborhoods looking for recently delivered packages, and have even followed delivery trucks along their routes. This is an issue all over the Atlanta metro area, and not just in Douglas County. We encourage everyone who is shopping online this season to be extra vigilant about their deliveries. If you are not going to be available at the time of delivery, choose to have the package shipped to your place of business. Many shipping companies have the option of tracking and insuring packages. Installing security cameras is also a good way to catch package thieves in the act. Please be vigilant about any strangers or suspicious people in your neighborhood, and make sure to call 911 if you see something that just isn't right.
